I've often wondered if the men designing and building those machines knew how beautiful they were. Or did they take them for granted like all the stuff we do on a daily basis?
I would like to think they knew, unfortunately I am sure they viewed them as just another tool that had a specific use. I feel it was later in the evolution of the mechanical conveyance that the aesthetics were deemed important. I think it was just pride in their work that made these machines beautiful works of art.
